Political Colours

Let's see more than crimson history,
No firm darks and lights, or fence-sitting greys,
May credit be paid to where it is due;
Painting by numbers trials anyone's hue.
Picture rendering pigment subtleties
On a sixty-million-strong tapestry!

In the face of such a diverse palette,
Why act surprised when progress is beset?
It is wiser a course of action to take,
To tonally-assess politician's claims;
Hold to account an individual's stance,
Only after viewing the entire canvas.

We must all chromatically scrutinise,
To detect black minds and little white lies,
'Cause stalled we'll become in la politique,
If -wash beats the -flag when fearing defeat.
Though the other block to effecting change
Are rosette wearers betraying their shades.

So bemoan not those blue and red fights,
If spectral splits throw kaleidoscope light.
Keep, then, the primaries our lifeblood,
Lest mixing them up inters merely brown mud.

New Times Roman

I will be exhibiting new pieces in New Times Roman, an exhibition in Bath featuring work by 10 graduates of University College Falmouth. Here are the details:

NEW TIMES ROMAN IS an exhibition of new artwork from ten contemporary artists.

NEW TIMES ROMAN IS NOT a monument to the past but a nod to the here and now. It endorses an amount of permanence and cultural stamina from its very citing in the heritage city of Bath; using the city’s historic fixedness as a set for its own volatile and passing industry.

NEW TIMES ROMAN IS a show that revels in moments of collision and starkness, led by the stance that the display of modernity is in itself a satisfying guiding artistic principle.

NEW TIMES ROMAN IS NOT burdened with the lugging-around of overarching conceptual dialogue and controlling thematic directives: more that it will function as a collective homage to intuition, chance and visual theatre. Pieces are introduced to the mix via matters of happenstance and an experiment of artistic conviviality.

NEW TIMES ROMAN IS a litmus test - and snapshot of - the work, practice and progression of a handful of recent graduates from University College Falmouth (08/09). It uses this sole geographical counter as an exciting proposition to roll the dice again; this time in Bath.

NEW TIMES ROMAN IS NOT to be missed!

Private view Monday January 24th, 6pm – 9pm

Open Tuesday January 25th – Sunday January 30th 2011, 10am – 5pm daily

The Octagon,
Milsom Street,
Bath,
Somerset,
BA1 1BZ

Here's a little ditty written by some ancient about the Octagon of yore when it functioned as a chapel and its underground vaults as store for wine merchants. Perhaps it will entice you to come along on the January 24th?

"Spirits above and spirits below,
Spirits of Bliss and spirits of woe,
The spirits above are spirits Divine,
The spirits below are spirits of wine."

In the event of our private view it should be noted that the spirits above will be both divine AND wine..

I will be showing work at "Intimacy" this coming weekend. It is a venture of Left at the Theatre, and although my work won't strictly fall under the category, it will showcase live art.

The piece that I will be including is titled "Intimacy" and has been envisaged exclusively for this event. Tickets are £5 and the doors open at 3pm.

As a further note, Fantastic Damage will be playing music at the after party.

Thank you for your time.

This Thursday...

I am exhibiting work at Unit 11 Space in Hackney this coming Thursday from 7pm. Please come along. There will be free beer if that can tempt you in?

Thanks to everyone for coming to the Star of Bethnal Green on Saturday. Boy, that was a late one!

February will see a new Fantastic Damage project, so keep those peepers peeled..

But now back to Thursday:

UNIT 11 Hosts:

“NOVEMBER”

Featuring new work by Todd Atticus, Francis Brady, Sarah Ely, Jemma Skidmore and James Thurgood.

You are cordially invited to witness “November”, a flash-exhibition taking place this Thursday at Hackney’s Unit 11 space. With the nights drawing rapidly in and the shops announcing Christmas with abandon, this month begins with a flash of fireworks and closes with the opening of advent calendars.

To deviate from these well-trodden proceedings, Unit 11 has selected new work by 5 London-based artists for a short, sharp exhibition. Through a combination of open submissions and a presentation of work from members of The Ministry of Progress, this event aims to present a strong body of ideas spanning multiple art platforms.

There will also be free beer available on the night for those of you who need a little persuading to face these cold evenings out of doors.

The show will be open on Thursday night (November 4th) from 7pm to 10pm.

Originally opened in 2009, Unit 11 is a project space situated in the heart of East London and functions as a blank canvas for flash shows and one-off projects. It has recently shown new works by Cara Fielding and Todd Atticus. December will see the hanging of a new cycle of paintings by Brighton-based artist Aimee Parrott.

Unit 11 is a five minute walk from Hackney Central Overground station and is situated along or near to the following bus routes: 30, 38, 277, 48, 55, 253, 254, 106.

Unit 11 Space,
124-136 Morning Lane,
Homerton,
Hackney,
